The Church of England in Elsdon, Otterburn, Horsley & Byrness
31st January 2016
- This Sunday is Candlemas which commemorates the ritual purification of Mary, 40 days after the birth of her son Jesus. This day also marks the Presentation of the infant Jesus to God in the Temple at Jerusalem. It concludes the ‘Christmas Season’.
- Have you been confirmed? Or do you know of anyone who might want to be? A Service of Confirmation is planned for May 15th. It is to be held at St John’s Otterburn but is for anyone in the Team Parish. There is no upper age limit and increasingly more mature people are asking about confirmation. I would be more than happy to have a chat with anyone who wants to find out more.
- No doubt you will have heard of the Horsley Organ Restoration Group. Now you can have a look a special website which details the work so far and the plans for the future. The Group invite us to an information evening and Community Get-together Friday, 5 February/ 2016 at Rochester Village Hall, 7.00-11.00 p.m. There will be music by Landermason, Ian K. Brown, The Uketeers and other talented local musicians Tasty Food, Beer and Soft Drinks provided FREE (if you prefer wine, bring a bottle) Raffle. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION
- In late 2015 the Tynedale Community Bank (TCB) was formed to provide local borrowing and lending services for the people of Tynedale. TCB is looking for “Church Champions” to be a link between TCB and Church communities. (All sessions begin at 7.30 pm in Otterburn Vicarage)
‘Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name’
An invitation to discover our place in the universe
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is heaven’
The Christian faith cannot be relegated to the realm of the spiritual or the margins of society.
Give us this day our daily bread
Just enough for each day, that others also may have enough
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
God’s grace to us and our obligation to others are inseparable
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
Our choices are eternally significant, not just for ourselves but for the well being of creation
For thine is the kingdom, the power and glory, for ever and ever
The prayer concludes with ‘worship’, which in word and deed is the secret of true happiness.
