‘Redesdale Rites’

  • This Sunday is Candlemas which commemorates the ritual purification of Mary, 40 days after the birth of her son Jesus. This day also marks the Presentation of the infant Jesus to God in the Temple at Jerusalem. It concludes the ‘Christmas Season’.
  • Have you been confirmed? Or do you know of anyone who might want to be? A Service of Confirmation is planned for May 15th. It is to be held at St John’s Otterburn but is for anyone in the Team Parish. There is no upper age limit and increasingly more mature people are asking about confirmation. I would be more than happy to have a chat with anyone who wants to find out more.

  • No doubt you will have heard of the Horsley Organ Restoration Group. Now you can have a look a special website which details the work so far and the plans for the future.   The Group invite us to an information evening and Community Get-together Friday, 5 February/ 2016 at Rochester Village Hall, 7.00-11.00 p.m. There will be music by Landermason, Ian K. Brown, The Uketeers and other talented local musicians Tasty Food, Beer and Soft Drinks provided FREE (if you prefer wine, bring a bottle) Raffle.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION


  • In late 2015 the Tynedale Community Bank (TCB) was formed to provide local borrowing and lending services for the people of Tynedale. TCB is looking for “Church Champions” to be a link between TCB and Church communities. God’s grace to us and our obligation to others are inseparable

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
Our choices are eternally significant, not just for ourselves but for the well being of creation

For thine is the kingdom, the power and glory, for ever and ever
The prayer concludes with ‘worship’, which in word and deed is the secret of true happiness.

  • The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity concludes tomorrow (Monday).  This evening  (Sunday 24th)  at 6pm at St Cuthbert's Church in Bellingham there will be an Ecumenical Service of Prayer followed by a shared supper to which all are welcome and invited to bring a contribution.


  • Congratulations to Dale and Emma Quincey, married at St John the Evangelist, on Saturday 23rd. We wish them every blessing in their married life.

9.00 am - Parish Communion at Holy Trinity, Horsley
11.00 am  Morning Prayer (BCP Mattins) at St Cuthbert’s, Elsdon
The bible readings are: Nehemiah 8.1-3,5-6,8-10   1 Corinthians 12.12-31a


There will be a service of Communion (with prayer for healing) at St John the Evangelist, Otterburn on Wednesday (27th)  at 10.00 am


Our Service next Sunday  (31st January)  is:
11.00 am - Group Service at St John’s Otterburn. We will be celebrating the festival of ‘Candlemas’ with a Family Communion. All welcome.
Candlemas commemorates the ritual purification of Mary, 40 days after the birth of her son Jesus. This day also marks the ritual presentation of the baby Jesus to God in the Temple at Jerusalem. It concludes the ‘Christmas Season’.
There is a traditional saying:
“If Candlemas Day be fair and bright, winter will have another fight.
If Candlemas Day brings cloud and rain, winter won't come again.”
We’ll see!

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity runs from 18th to 25th January.
More than ever it is important for all the Christian denominations to stand, pray and work together against the evil in the world, but also to turn outwards towards the bigger issues that are facing humankind and creation.


The services this Sunday (‘Epiphany 2) are:
9.00 am - Parish Communion at St Francis, Byrness
11.00 am  Parish Communion at St John the Evangelist, Otterburn


There will be a service of Communion at St John the Evangelist, Otterburn on Wednesday (20th)  at 10.00 am


Bellingham Deanery Finance Committee meet on Thursday evening (21st) to begin a discussion on the challenging question of stewardship and funding the work of the church in this area. Please pray for those charged with this important task.


The Marriage of Dale Quincey and Emma Nicholson takes place next Saturday (23rd) at St John the Evangelist, Otterburn,at 11.00 am. We pray for them this week as they prepare for their marriage. (Pray also that we can get the heating fixed!)
