SUNDAY 26th NOVEMBER 2017
After all the hype about ‘Black Friday’ maybe you want to register a protest against all the consumerism which characterises the run up to Christmas. Here is an idea proposed by Maureen Walton of Elsdon -
‘The Reverse Advent Calendar’.
“Reverse Advent Calendar 2017 -To support the work of The Peoples’ Kitchen, who offer food, friendship and futures to homeless and vulnerable people in Newcastle. As it suggests a reverse advent calendar involves putting something into a bag or box rather than taking something out- for example items like non perishable foods such as tinned soups and meats, tea coffee drinking chocolate, toiletries or items of clothing such as hats gloves and (new) socks. This December there will be collection points around Elsdon - suitably festive cardboard boxes can be found in St Cuthbert’s Church, The Bird in Bush and my garden shed (opposite the Bird in Bush access through the gate by the telephone box and defibrillator!) Alternatively if you would like to make a donation - £5.00 ( made on line ) can provide a Christmas dinner. For more information www.peopleskitchen.co.uk I hope you can help- even a few items can make a huge difference.
Many thanks -Maureen Walton”
